Threaded filling adapter according to DIN 477-6 for carbon dioxide and inert gas valves with residual pressure valve
For carbon dioxide (CO₂) and all inert gas cylinders as well as shielding gas mixtures used in welding, valves are commonly equipped with a residual pressure valve (RPV) or flow protection device. This additional valve, functioning similarly to a check valve, prevents the uncontrolled release of gas in case the cylinder valve is accidentally opened, avoiding complete emptying of the cylinder.
To fill CO₂ and shielding gas cylinders, this internal valve must be mechanically opened during the filling process. This is achieved using the adapter, which is screwed onto the cylinder valve. By tightening the integrated set screw, the residual pressure mechanism is activated, allowing gas flow. The filling connection can then be safely attached to the adapter for filling with carbon dioxide or inert gases.

The user must ensure that the selected valve outlet connection cannot be connected to fittings of other standards or gases in order to prevent hazardous situations (e.g. leakage, incompatibility, risk of asphyxiation, explosion hazard).
